In Charlotte, North Carolina, for example—home to SIM USA—a group of women from a Life Group banded together when they learned 80 percent of children in Southern Sudan do not attend school. GKI has many projects in an effort to rebuild this region, which has been devastated by decades of civil war. In response, the women formed a “Sticks to Bricks” fundraising campaign that culminated in a black-tie dinner, which brought in $23,320 to build a Basic Education Learning Center for these Sudanese children. Their proactive response resulted in education, planning, organization, and a successful event. Watch the short video above and see first hand the fusion of both empowerment and connectedness.
